How accurate is it at 13 weeks? Early gender is a reasonable guess rather than a certainty. If your baby’s position or the early stage means we cannot be confident, we will tell you honestly — and a later scan from 16 weeks gives a clearer answer.

Your first day of last period or your dating scan helps us check your baby is growing as expected.
Understand the scan
Gel is applied and the probe is moved gently over your lower tummy. You can watch on the screen with your partner or family. It is painless and takes about 20 minutes.
Share the moment
The sonographer explains what they can see as they scan. Your written report follows within 24 hours, and your images are emailed to you — ready to share with your midwife or GP.

Does this replace my NHS scans?
No. A private scan is extra reassurance, not a replacement. Keep all your NHS antenatal appointments and scans, and share our report with your midwife.
Can you put the gender in an envelope?
Yes. Tell the sonographer at the start and we will write the result in a sealed card for your reveal.
What if baby will not cooperate?
Babies move a lot at this stage. We may ask you to walk around or change position. If we still cannot see clearly, ask about a re-scan.
Expecting twins or triplets?
Choose the twins or triplets option in the booking form so we reserve the longer appointment each baby needs.
What if I have bleeding or pain?
Heavy bleeding, severe tummy pain, shoulder-tip pain or feeling faint need urgent care: contact your early pregnancy unit, maternity unit or NHS 111, or call 999 in an emergency. Do not wait for a private scan.

Preparation, made clear.
- Drink about 500 ml of still water an hour before — a comfortably full bladder helps at this early stage.
- Wear something comfortable that lets you easily uncover your lower tummy.
- Bring any previous scans, reports or doctor’s letters so the sonographer can compare and focus on what matters.
