Liver Stiffness Measurements(Shearwave elastography vs Fibroscan)

  1. Liver Stiffness Measurements: Our clinic utilizes state-of-the-art Supersonic Imagine machines for liver stiffness measurements, employing the shear wave elastography technique. This cutting-edge technology provides enhanced accuracy and detail in assessing liver stiffness and elasticity.
  2. Distinction from FibroScan: It is important to clarify that “FibroScan” is a trademarked name for a specific machine that has been traditionally used for liver stiffness measurements. While FibroScan has become a commonly recognized term for liver stiffness measurement, it refers to an older technology that differs from our shear wave elastography technique. Our Supersonic Imagine machines represent a superior, more advanced approach.
  3. Common Misconception: Patients and clinicians should be aware that the term “FibroScan” is often incorrectly used as a generic term for liver stiffness measurements. This can lead to confusion, as the shear wave elastography technique we employ offers distinct technological benefits and uses different cut-off values compared to the traditional FibroScan machines.
  4. Cut-off Values: The cut-off values for liver stiffness and elasticity measurements may vary between different technologies. It is crucial for patients and clinicians to interpret these results in the context of the specific technology used. Relying on FibroScan cut-off values for results obtained from shear wave elastography could lead to inaccurate conclusions.
  5. Expert Guidance: Our experienced radiologists are available to provide detailed explanations and professional guidance on interpreting liver stiffness measurements obtained with our shear wave elastography technology. We encourage open communication to address any questions or concerns regarding the techniques and results.
  6. Acknowledgment: By using our services, you acknowledge that you understand the differences between the Supersonic Imagine shear wave elastography technique and traditional FibroScan machines. You agree to consult with our specialists for accurate interpretation and application of the results.
