Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can book directly. If your GP or specialist has asked for this scan, bring their letter so the sonographer knows what to focus on.
Is it like a FibroScan?
It measures the same thing — liver stiffness — using ultrasound elastography, with a full view of the liver at the same time.
Can I add colour Doppler?

What if I have severe pain?

- Do not eat for 6 hours before your appointment — an empty stomach gives the clearest view of the upper abdomen.
- Sips of still water are fine; avoid fizzy drinks, milk and chewing gum.
