A pelvic ultrasound looks at the uterus, the lining of the womb, the ovaries and the bladder. Both a scan over the tummy and an internal scan are offered, so the view is as clear as it can be.
Check the size and shape of the womb and look for fibroids and polyps.
Measure the thickness and appearance of the womb lining.
Look at both ovaries for cysts, follicles and a polycystic appearance.
Assess the bladder and the structures around the uterus and ovaries.
Pelvic ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging test that provides detailed views of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding pelvic structures. We offer both transabdominal and transvaginal (internal) ultrasound options to ensure the best possible clarity.
This scan is commonly used to investigate pelvic pain, irregular or heavy periods, post-menopausal bleeding, fertility problems, PCOS and endometriosis as well as other gynaecological issues. It helps detect conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, polyps, and other abnormalities that may affect fertility or indicate early signs of gynaecological cancers.
Whether you’re experiencing symptoms or seeking reassurance, our experienced sonographers provide a professional and comfortable environment with clear, detailed results you can rely on.

There are two types of pelvic ultrasound scans:
A pelvic ultrasound scan is a safe, non-invasive imaging test that provides detailed views of the uterus, ovaries, cervix, and pelvic organs. At our London clinic, we offer both transabdominal and transvaginal (TVS) ultrasound options, including specialized scans for heavy or irregular periods, PCOS, pelvic pain, postmenopausal bleeding, and early pregnancy assessment.
Whether you're experiencing lower abdominal pain, suspected ovarian cysts, or need to investigate bleeding between periods, our private gynaecological ultrasound services provide fast, accurate, and discreet answers. We also offer internal scans of the womb and ultrasound to check ovaries, helping diagnose fibroids, endometriosis, thickened endometrial lining, or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
Our experienced sonographers conduct thorough internal pelvic scans, including TVS scans and abdominal ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries, tailored to each patient’s concerns. Need a pelvic scan during your period or preparing for IVF? We offer same-day appointments with minimal wait times and explain every step of the pelvic ultrasound procedure.

A pelvic ultrasound scan is a safe, non-invasive imaging procedure used to evaluate the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, endometrium, and surrounding pelvic structures. It plays a crucial role in the diagnosis, monitoring, and management of various gynaecological conditions. At Phoenix Ultrasound, women can access a private pelvic ultrasound without needing a GP referral. This allows for early detection, reassurance, and faster healthcare decisions.
A pelvic ultrasound is particularly recommended for women experiencing the following symptoms or undergoing fertility evaluation:
Persistent or unexplained pelvic pain may indicate conditions such as ovarian cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, or pelvic inflammatory disease (PID). Ultrasound helps identify the root cause of discomfort.
A scan is advised if you experience:
A gynaecological ultrasound helps assess for structural abnormalities in the uterus or ovaries.
If cysts or fibroids are suspected, an ultrasound provides accurate visualisation. It helps determine the type, size, and location of the growths.
Pelvic ultrasound is an essential part of fertility investigations, helping evaluate the ovaries, endometrial lining, and uterine structure. Follicular tracking scans monitor ovulation and follicle development.
Ongoing bloating or pressure in the pelvic area may be linked to large cysts or fibroids. A scan can help rule out underlying causes.
Bleeding after menopause should always be investigated. A pelvic ultrasound evaluates the endometrial thickness and identifies abnormalities.
Women with PCOS, fibroids, or endometriosis often require regular pelvic ultrasounds to monitor their condition.
If a recent cervical screening or gynaecological exam shows abnormalities, an ultrasound may be advised for further assessment.
Ultrasound confirms an intrauterine pregnancy, checks for fetal heartbeat, rules out ectopic pregnancy, and determines gestational age.
A pelvic scan verifies the correct placement of contraceptive devices like the coil (IUD/IUS).
A women’s pelvic scan provides detailed information about the reproductive organs. It’s a vital tool in identifying a wide range of medical conditions.
At Phoenix Ultrasound, we provide professional and compassionate care in a discreet, female-friendly setting. Here’s what makes our pelvic scan service stand out:

A scan over your tummy is done first, with a full bladder. An internal (transvaginal) scan usually gives a much clearer view; it is explained first and only performed with your consent. A chaperone is available.
The sonographer discusses the findings with you on the day. Ask what they mean, whether anything needs repeating, and who should receive the report.
Choose the location that works for you. Confirm your selected clinic in the booking system before completing your appointment.

Often, yes. A transvaginal scan sits much closer to the uterus and ovaries and gives a far clearer view, particularly of the lining and the ovaries. The sonographer explains why it is suggested and asks for your consent, a chaperone is available, and you can decline.
Yes. It does not prevent the scan, and for some questions — such as measuring the lining — particular days of the cycle are actually more useful. If you would rather not, book for another day.
For the scan over your tummy, a full bladder pushes the bowel out of the way and acts as a window onto the uterus and ovaries. Without it the view can be poor. If an internal scan follows, you will be asked to empty your bladder first.
It can show signs that point towards them — a polycystic appearance of the ovaries, or endometriomas — but a normal scan does not rule endometriosis out. The findings are read alongside your symptoms and, where relevant, blood tests.
No. You can book directly, and the report is yours to share with your GP or a gynaecologist.
The sonographer discusses the findings with you on the day, and the written report is normally available the same day.
