Women’s Pelvic Ultrasound: Uterus & Ovaries

A Pelvic Ultrasound for women is a non-invasive imaging procedure that provides a clear view of the uterus, ovaries, fallopian tubes, and surrounding pelvic structures. This scan is essential for diagnosing various gynaecological conditions, monitoring reproductive health, and aiding in fertility assessments. It helps detect abnormalities such as cysts, fibroids, tumors, and other changes that may suggest gynaecological cancers, including ovarian, uterine, or endometrial cancer. It also provides valuable insights into menstrual irregularities, pelvic pain, and other symptoms—supporting early detection and timely medical intervention.

🔍 What is a Pelvic Ultrasound?

A Pelvic Ultrasound uses sound waves to create detailed images of the pelvic organs, particularly the uterus and ovaries. There are two methods for conducting the scan:

  • ✅ Transabdominal Ultrasound: A transducer is moved over the lower abdomen to capture images of the pelvic organs.
  • ✅ Transvaginal Ultrasound: A smaller probe is inserted into the vagina to get closer and clearer images of the uterus, ovaries, and fallopian tubes, providing more detailed information.

📌 Why is a Pelvic Ultrasound Important?

  • ✅ Uterine Fibroids: Detects non-cancerous growths that may cause heavy bleeding, pain, or fertility issues.
  • ✅ Ovarian Cysts: Identifies fluid-filled sacs or solid masses on the ovaries.
  • ✅ Endometrial Issues: Assesses the lining of the uterus for abnormalities.
  • ✅ PCOS: Helps diagnose Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by detecting multiple small cysts.
  • ✅ Fertility Assessments: Monitors ovarian follicles and uterine lining.
  • ✅ Pelvic Pain: Investigates unexplained pelvic discomfort or pressure.
